Slate Digital Fresh Air is a free, simple, and highly effective plugin designed to add high-frequency brilliance and clarity to audio sources. It's not a traditional EQ or exciter in the complex sense; it's a streamlined, single-purpose tool that does one job exceptionally well: adding "air".
Fresh Air is an intelligent high-frequency booster that operates in two bands:
"Air" Band (High): Boosts frequencies in the very high range (typically above ~10 kHz). This adds sheen, sparkle, and a sense of "airiness."
"Presence" Band (Mid-High): Boosts frequencies in the upper-midrange (typically around 1.5 kHz to 10 kHz). This adds clarity, definition, and helps elements cut through a mix.
The plugin has just three knobs:
AIR: Controls the amount of boost in the high-frequency "air" band.
PRESENCE: Controls the amount of boost in the upper-mid "presence" band.
OUTPUT: A gain knob to compensate for the increase in volume from the boosting, allowing for accurate A/B comparison.
